Now that simply won't do at all, everyone needs a good mortician! You should check the phone book, or I suppose whatever is similar in your world, and find a reputable one!

And as for friends, nonsense! How can a handsome litch like yourself not have any friends? You must come over for dinner. Would a seance summon you?

I don't know if it would, no one's tried that I know of - but I would love to come over. If it's not too much of a bother.

I changed it a long time ago - too many bad memories. Do you need my birth name, or is what I go by now fine?

You know, I'm really not sure! Let's start with your name now, darling, and if that doesn't work we can try the other. I think it all depends on how long you've been who you are now compared to who you were then, but I'm hardly a master of the dark arts.

Gershom Alter. I haven't used my birth name since I was in the caliphate of Cordoba.

So charmed to meet you, Mr Alter, and caliphate - that sounds important!

I'm Mrs. Addams. You might find you feel an odd pull, that would be the summoning. It's quite safe, so don't panic. It always makes quite a mess if we get a panicking spirit unused to travel.

[[It has been literal years since I've done this, how would you like to proceed?]]

[Sorry, he was definitely not prepared for the summoning, and when he poofs into existence in the Addams family home his first instinct is to cower.]

It worked! Oh, how delightful! [[Morticia stands at the edge of the summoning circle which is lit with candles. The Addams Family Home is a museum of oddities in all shapes and sizes.]]

Now now, no need to cower, Mr Alter! You're very welcome here, we just have to go through a few rules before I let you out of the circle.

[This is a lich who hasn't been out of his apartment in a decade and is not used to in-person contact. It's a miracle he didn't flinch at her voice.

Also he's wearing cat-patterned pajamas.]

Sorry. I guess I'm easily spooked.

It's quite all right! Now let's see, no possessing anyone after nine pm, the children have very strict bedtimes and possession always riles them up. Please don't eat any of the family ghosts, not even if they ask you to, and when you want to go home you just let me know and we'll send you off.

[[Morticia is quite serious in her words, even if she's still smiling and pouring on the charm.]

Agreed. I don't even know how to possess someone, haha...

[And he's pretty sure he doesn't know how to eat ghosts either?]

You poor dear, you really haven't gotten out much at all, have you? Well come along, let me show you to the others, perhaps they'll have some advice to get you started, possession really is quite fun! [Morticia breaks the circle and offers him her hand.]

And your pajamas are quite sweet, but did I pull you from bed? I should have given you more warning!

[Carefully, Gershom takes Morticia's hand. When was the last time he held someone's hand...? Maybe when he was alive?]

Oh, no - well, yes, you did surprise me, but these are my usual clothes. I haven't left the apartment in a decade, so there's not much point in dressing up...

[Morticia pats his hand, completely unbothered by his litch-ness-ness. She's less than unbothered, really: he's just like any other family member.]

A whole decade! Why on earth would you stay inside so long, darling? Don't tell me you're from one of those worlds where everything has just faded away, are you? Those are really quite sad, even if the desolation is beautiful.

No, no, nothing awful like that! But humans where I'm from don't really take well to... things like me. If someone sees me they'll call the police, or an exorcist, or something like that - it's just easier to hide.

Well, Mr Alter, you won't find any exorcists here, and you're welcome to stay as long as you'd like. Honestly! Some people just don't know how to be good neighbors.

[He'd feel like a bother if he stayed, but it makes him happy anyway.]
