The prince had been gifted a sword at birth by the queen. She stated it showed he was destined for great things.

The sword was his most precious possession, evidence of a destiny he did not yet know about.

When he swung it in anger one day at his father, he lopped off his head. This started a bloody war of accession between him and his brother.

He lost, and the sword was used as the tool of his execution. His stepmother the queen, claiming the blade, smiled as her son took the throne.

Ah, no, it's, uh...

i got a cool weapon in stock that didn't have a story attached to it and i thought i'd write my own instead (*μ_μ)

Wait, you mean at a store? I knew other countries had more lax weapon restrictions, but it's still throwing me a little to hear.

I'm an arms dealer. It's perfectly normal where I am. People need swords and stuff after all!

Of course there are! Honestly, you're posting on an interdimensional journal page and you really need to ask that?

I guess that's true, but it's one thing to see it and another to believe it. ...Wait, that usually goes the other way...

That's a quality fairy tale, though. A lot of layers of meaning packed into about a paragraph. You've got a real gift, if that's original.

Oh, uh, that's nice of you to say. Um, I mean, I've had a lot of stories to emulate so I guess I'm glad to know that I did a decent job of it. (￣▽￣*)ゞ

There's definitely archetypes and tricks to it, yeah, but understanding that structure and having something interesting to say with it is a definite skill.

You read a lot, or just hear a lot of stories in your job or something?

Well you know! Weapons always come with such fascinating and dark stories! So it's nice to write one for a weapon that doesn't have one, right?

Definitely. It doesn't even have to be a true story if it's saying something useful. Like don't trust royalty, or someone who just hands you the capacity for violence and tells you to use it.

Unfortunately I can't attach unofficial stories to the weapons I sell but still!

That would be pretty shady, if you tried to sell it based on something you made up.

Then again, if you're buying a weapon, does its history matter more than how useful it is? The story and the thing itself have completely separate value.

Which is most of my customers to be honest. No appreciation for the arts.

I'd rather have a story than a sword, personally, but I'd take both.
