[3] Vampires;
[Honestly nothing is that different. Rachel was always fairly pale, though now her pallor is that much more pronounced. Her eyes had more life to them but even with this whole 'being dead' part of vampirism, the unusually bright gleam of her eyes is pretty fitting for her.

The worst part about all of this though is --]

Ow!

[Her brow scrunches up as she visibly winces.]

I keep biting myself.

[Rachel probably looks far more pleased than she ever has before. Maybe this whole covered in animals thing is supposed to be bad but frankly out of all the hiccups this one is by far the best in her opinion.

At present she has birds perched on her shoulders, a cat dangling off of her head and a plump puppy in either arm. And she is near shining with pleasure here.

... Well, for a moment at least.]

I'm not sure what to do with all of them.

[Surely Zack won't mind if she brings home, like, ten animals or something. Right?]

What are some good beginner's texts for helping someone learn to read?

I've never had to name something before.

If you're planning to keep them, I think you should give them names.

[koroshite]

[They definitely have a point. It'd be hard to just say Puppy #1 or Puppy #2 or so on forever.]

Maybe I should look up pet names online.

That's a good idea. There are lots of interesting name generators if you want to go with something unusual, too.

[She mulls on that while the puppies in her arms squirm and then with a frown shakes her head.]

They have to have meaning too. It wouldn't be fair to them if they didn't.

[She's taking the whole naming thing very seriously.]

That's a good point. Then make sure to think about them carefully, nu?

[She gives a very soft nod, unwilling to dislodge the weight atop her head.

Instinct tells her with a certain darkness that they're all "hers" and only "hers" and no one will name them or they'll be less "hers". And --

One of the birds on her shoulder gives a loud 'peep' and knocks her out of her downward spiral of thoughts. With a blink the dark look begins to clear from her face.

She hugs the puppies a little tighter, her tone soft.]

Do... you have any suggestions? For names.

Well... I know lots of names, nu, but it'd depend on what language you want to name them in. English, right?

It'd be best to start with children's books!

[ Can't get much more beginner than that! ]

I thought about that. I think it might be better if they weren't too childish in tone. He won't want to learn if he feels like I'm making fun of him with them.

A legend or myth wouldn't be too childish, would it? You could even pick a story he already knows!

... I wonder if he does.

[She makes a mental note to ask Zack if he knows any stories.]

I don't really think he would know anything like that though.

[ UH.... This is a concerning development. Here, have a concerned audio message. ]

It might be because you're hungry. I'd suggest staving it off with live animals if you can...

[ He didn't see any dark patches or strange growths of any sort, but... No, that's ridiculous. There's no way those things could have entered her world... Right? ]

Do you remember how you ended up like that?

[Staving off animals. Her heart tightens a moment. Even if others said she did things during those fuzzy moments Rachel wasn't exactly thrilled with the idea of hurting animals.

She sifts through her memories. It wouldn't be the first time there were blanks there but her voice is soft and the only inflection it really bears it tiredness.]

I woke up like this.

[And not in a meme or pop song sort of way.]

[ He wasn't expecting memes... ]

You didn't encounter any strange creatures before you went to sleep? No bite marks or wounds to speak of?

[She shakes her head firmly.]

I would have woke up.

[Rachel wasn't exactly in the habit of sleeping deeply.]

Hm... I don't have any idea what might have caused your condition, then. Until someone figures out a cure for it, I suggest you try to sate the hunger as long as you can before your instincts drive you to lash out at someone.
